USAT Names Junior National Team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—USA Triathlon (USAT) has selected eight athletes for the 2008 Junior National Team. The athletes were selected based upon their “outstanding performances” during the 2007 junior elite triathlon season; they will receive support from USAT for their development pursuits in ITU-style racing.
Members of the Junior National Team will represent the United States at USAT Junior Elite Cup races, the Pan American Junior Championships and other development races throughout the season.
The membership roster for the Junior National Team is available on the USAT website, www.usatriathlon.org.
In other USAT news, the Olympic Trials have been moved from Honolulu to Tuscaloosa, Ala. The trials had to be moved because state funding for the race did not come through, according to a USAT press release.
The trials will be April 19-20 in conjunction with the collegiate nationals. Tuscaloosa hosted the 2007 Collegiate Nationals.
Tuscaloosa was chosen based upon “its success with hosting the USAT Collegiate Nationals [in 2007] and the course’s match with that of the Olympic Games course in Beijing,” the release stated.
